The Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation, Groton, Conn., has received a $401-million U.S. Navy contract for construction of another Trident nuclear-powered, missile-firing submarine. The SSBN-733 is the eighth Trident ordered by the Navy. This latest contract includes options for two additional SSBNs.

The largest submarine ever built, the Trident is 560 feet long and has a displacement of 18,750 tons—larger than World War II cruisers. Capable of carrying 24 intercontinental ballistic missiles, the Trident will have a crew of 154 and an endurance 40 percent greater than present submarines.
