4. ABS Reports Record Number Of Vessels Under Classification

   American Bureau of Shipping chairman and president William N. Johnston reported at the society's semiannual meeting that 15,956 vessels totaling 196,021,000 dwt were in ABS class at mid-1981, a record, with strong newbuilding contract activity in bulk carriers, offshore drilling units, supply and fishing vessels.

5. Ohio River Terminal Renovation Increases Throughput By 75 Percent

   Ohio River Company's Huntington, W.Va. coal transfer terminal now handles five million tons per year, up from 3.5 million, after a 19-month renovation with only 1½ weeks downtime. Soros Associates devised the design scheme, which replaced the bottom-dump pit with a rotary car dumper and reworked the rail layout and barge loader.

7. Second Wind-Assisted Diesel Propelled Ship Building In Japan

   Imamura Shipbuilding of Kure, Japan, will soon deliver the coastal tanker Aitoku Maru to Aitoku Co., a second wind-assisted diesel ship built initially without sails so bare-vessel performance data can be obtained. The article reviews in-service results from the earlier Shin Aitoku Maru.

8. Burton Delivers 224-Ft. Seiner, Second Of Seven For Van Camp

   Burton Shipyard, Inc. of Port Arthur, Texas, has delivered the 224-foot tuna purse seiner Patrician, the second of seven vessels for Van Camp Sea Food Co. and Capt. Manuel Vargas, for Pacific skipjack and yellowfin fishing out of San Diego.

10. NRC Releases Study Assessing The Safety Of OCS Offshore Oil
