4. Christen First U.S.-Flag Freezer Ship For East Coast Operations

   The converted 151-foot freezer ship Holland, the first American-owned U.S.-flag oceangoing freezer ship for the East Coast, was christened at the New York Port Authority's Pier 1 in Brooklyn and will buy catch at sea from American fishermen.

5. Bay Shipbuilding Delivers The 'Energy Freedom'—First Of New Fleet Planned By Universal American

   Bay Shipbuilding delivered the 550-foot jumbo bulk barge Energy Freedom to Universal American Shipping in a record nine months and seven days; chartered to New England Electric System, the barge will carry coal with the tug Gulf Majesty.

6. Construction Begins On New Super-Class Semisubmersible For ODECO

   ODECO has begun construction of the Ocean Ranger II, a heavy-duty winterized self-propelled semisubmersible, at Sumitomo Heavy Industries' Oppama Shipyard, with delivery forecast for December 1982.

7. Norshipco Reactivates Mothballed Cargo Ship In Less Than Six Days

   In a national defense readiness exercise, Norshipco reactivated the 35-year-old cargo ship Catawba Victory from the James River reserve fleet in five days and 14 hours, breaking previous records.

8. McDermott Official Says Marine Building Outlook In Gulf Area Is 'Best Ever'

   Robert E. Howson, president of McDermott Marine Construction, told a University of New Orleans symposium that Gulf of Mexico marine construction prospects for the 1980s are 'great,' citing record drilling, rig backlogs to 1985 and accelerated offshore leasing.

9. Bergeron Plans New Yard To Build Hopper Barges

   Bergeron Industries will build an $8-million shipyard at Demopolis, Ala., on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway to produce river hopper barges, with production starting in March 1982 through a new subsidiary, Bergeron Barges Inc.

10. Launch Largest Car/Passenger Ferry At Gdansk Shipyard

    The M/S Stena Scandinavica, reported to be the world's largest car/passenger ferry and first of four, was launched at the Gdynia Shipyard for Stena Line AB, with delivery due in the first quarter of 1983.
