   Levingston Shipbuilding christened and launched the 612-foot U.S.-flag dry bulk carrier Star of Texas at Orange, Texas, the second of three vessels for Asco-Falcon Shipping Company.

   M.A.N. Division GHH Sterkrade launched Yard No. 1143, a 3,020-dwt multipurpose cargo ship combining seagoing and inland waterway features, at Nordenham/Blexen.

   American President Lines has called for bids on an initial order of 733 forty-five-foot containers, the world's first, with 27 percent more capacity than a standard 40-foot box.

   Bell Aerospace Textron won a $40-million Navy contract for detailed design and long lead materials for the LCAC air cushion landing craft, with options bringing total value to $172 million.
